The Experience
with Anja Bergh & Sarah Zandbeek
An online guided exploration of Traditional Chinese Medicine through the lens of Somatic embodiment practices, Yoga, Yoga Nidra, Journaling & Breath.
The Experience has stemmed from years of cultivation and study from both Anja and Sarah in the fields of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Somatic Embodiment articulation, Mind-body centring, Embodied Flow, Nervous system exploration, years of Yoga asana, yoga nidra, and meditation. It’s designed to offer you both another lens to understand your body-mind and how your being is connected to and moves with Nature; as well as, getting to explore those concepts and discovering new ways to navigate the crevasses of your whole system through somatic exploration.
Key elements of the program:
In the Chinese medicine portion, we will break down and track where each meridian lies, discuss its season, what occurs within that season, the emotion attached to the paired organs in their balance and imbalances, the tissues involved in the body, and the common cause of dis-ease within the element. We will also go over how the meridians develop in utero. At the end of each module you will be sent a recorded Yoga Nidra to help support the subconscious continuum of each element and its paired Organs.
Traditional Chinese Medicine exploration:
Meridian development
Each Element = Module
Track the meridian
Season - watch nature + follow
Tissues involved
Emotional scale - balance + imbalances in both direction.
Spirit
Common Dis-ease causer
Yoga nidra, Organ Meditation
An idea of how we will explore somatically:
Somatic tracking foundations - how we listen & feel ourselves is how we receive ourselves. We can all find the natural wave of our energy and the kind of safety that gives us capacity to stay long enough to feel or hear something & let it show the way. We study somatic foundations through the nervous system (first) & fluids (second).
Somatic movement explorations - Movement is our first language. Movement is not separated from emotions, memories or our hopes & dreams. There is no correct way to move, but we do live the result of our movement choices. We will imagine, visualize, feel into & perhaps embody both systems & patterns. A body system is one way things connect - bones, muscles, connective tissue, organs, electricity, fluids etc. A movement pattern is also a way things connect. Held in the web of our flesh is both our past & everything that binds us to experiencing now-ness. But there is also timelessness, that opening to eternity and no-self that regenerates & matures. These movement sessions may drop us off in more familiar yogic shapes but sometimes not. When they are free of guided shapes you have to feel what is there, what wants to move or be still, and develop trust.
Developmental movement patterns - as a baby you needed to learn how to move yourself. Each of us developed a strategy that included and (sometimes skipped) a series of movements we call developmental patterns. Returning to these movement patterns as adults can reconnect us with movements we’ve lost to culture. Each one of us has movements that are considered good, nice, appropriate etc & movements that we consider ugly, bad, inappropriate. We begin our somatic journey by going through a developmental series from conception to walking. In Chinese medicine many of the connections and channels are a result of how things develop embryologically. Includes: cellular vibration, tissue intelligence, navel radiation, mouthing patterns, spinal patterns, push / pull / reach etc.
Nervous system foundations - ‘The nervous system is the first to react & the last to know’ says Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen. We all respond to the world based on what worked in the past. Then how do we change? Instead of placing a new behavior on top of what is not working, there are ways to practice presence & learn how to track and pendulate awareness between the inner world & outer world. When we start to move awareness in more conscious ways we may establish a greater sense of safety, which is the foundation for any type of reprogramming. It helps us notice the pause between input & output where we have a chance to ground, stay close to ourselves and act authentically.
The program will run over 10 weeks and is broken up into:
Opening call: March 6
Module 1: March 12 + 13
Module 2: March 26 + 27
Module 3: April 9 + 10
Module 4: April 23 + 24
Module 5: May 7 + 8
Closing call: May 15
Sarah Zandbeek
Sarah graduated from the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) program 7 years ago and it was never her vision to work as an Acupuncturist, it was the herbs and the wisdom that called her. “I don’t believe that people can really heal unless they want to and that is where I want to offer. I want to offer an education that teaches pathways of understanding ourselves on all levels and how to work with Nature to begin the long healing process of our Life and I utilize the longstanding wisdom of TCM to do just that.” She has been a Yoga facilitator and educator of Teachers for 14 years now and her path of physical movement has transformed many times over the years and has lead her to her now teacher, Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen, a very wise, beautiful teacher and creator of Body-Mind Centring - essentially a somatic embodiment school. When she studied Embodied Flow with Tara Judelle and Scott Lyons in Bali years ago (where she met Anja) her mind was absolutely blown with how little she knew about her body and the places and ways one can initiate movement. She had never learned anything like it and from there this program was born.
Anja Bergh
Anja is a movement educator, yoga teacher, mother, business owner & nervous system regulation nerd. She has been teaching movement for 20 years. Her passion is teaching slow transformative embodiment processes and practices for the wise ordinary human being.
The processes are of the kind that work immediately but take time to weave into the fabric of our being. After a few decades of being in the yoga world, her nervous system work has opened up a wider view of the world, revealing clarity in many areas of life, body & society that was very unclear & confusing before. It is all movement - the body, time, thoughts, emotion, vibration, so lets spend some time together & trust where the body takes us.
